What the comparison shows

Each comparison opens with the headline outcome — composite score, global rank and national rank for both institutions — then breaks that outcome into its parts so the difference can be explained rather than merely observed.

• Per-source results: the published position and normalised percentile for each ranking system that covers either institution, labelled with the edition year of that source.
• Coverage comparison: how many independent systems rank each institution, which determines how much evidence sits behind each score.
• Consistency comparison: how closely the systems agree about each institution.
• Legacy and momentum: historical depth against recent trajectory, so an established institution and a fast-rising one can be told apart.

Choosing a meaningful pair

Comparisons are most useful between institutions that share a relevant context: the same country, the same size band, or the same broad mission. Comparing a large research-intensive university to a small specialist institution will produce a large gap that reflects category difference rather than quality.

The tool supports this by letting you filter the selection lists by country and search by institution name, so peer sets can be constructed deliberately instead of by accident.

Comparing countries as well as institutions

The same interface can switch from institutional comparison to country comparison, benchmarking two national higher-education systems on average GURI Score, system representation, average institutional legacy and system excellence.

This is the appropriate level for ministries, agencies and international offices, where the question is rarely about one institution and usually about the standing of a system relative to its regional or economic peers.

Exporting a comparison

Any comparison can be issued as a Comparison Performance Report: a branded PDF with a unique report identifier, the edition year, the full indicator breakdown for both subjects and a verification link. Reports are versioned, so a superseded report remains traceable and a current report can always be confirmed as authentic.
